These Famous Dolls Get An Empowering Makeover

Bratz Dolls were originally just another pretty doll on the toy shelf, but artist Wendy Tsao is changing all of that.

Brat Dolls have long been criticized for their revealing outfits and heavy makeup, and parents have raised concerns about what Bratz teach children about women. But artist Wendy Tsao is changing all of that with her Mighty Dolls Project. For the project, Tsao will remove the heavy makeup and instead transform the dolls to resemble inspiring women. So far, her creations include Canadian astronaut Roberta Bondar, scientist Jane Goodall, author and activist Waris Dirie, artist Frida Kahlo, author J.K. Rowling and activist Malala Yousafzai.

Tsao explained her inspiration for the "Mighty dolls" project on Bored Panda, saying "I repainted and reclothed the manufactured dolls into the likeness of real, inspiring women – as young girls. As a parent, I’d love for my child to play with a young J.K. Rowling or Malala and have conversations about them."
